Handmade paper dyeing workshops using seven methods
The Handmade Paper Factory in Kobyłka invites everyone to a paper dyeing workshop using seven methods.
These workshops are fascinating – imagine seven stations in our Papierówka workshops, where you can dye paper in various ways. We will create beautiful papers dyed with a thick carrageenan extract, paste papers, papers stamped with linocut stamps, and herbarium papers, like those created by Leonardo da Vinci, using gifts of nature – plants and the texture of bark. While creating our own colored papers, we will learn how to create our own inks using plant juices and gum arabic, as well as plant decoctions, which are suitable for creating water-based colored paints.
Workshop Procedure:
- Slideshow – You will learn about the history of dyeing handmade paper and parchment, illuminations, and old manuscripts.
- Workshop One: Dyeing handmade paper using the marbling method on a thick carrageenan extract. We will use recreated 15th-century equipment – combs, paints, and handmade papers. You will learn what such papers were used for.
- Pastie Dyeing Workshop – This colorful workshop uses old recipes from master bookbinders. We will share its secrets with you. You will be able to use them later in your homes and schools, as it is easy to replicate.
- Leonardo da Vinci Herbarium Stamp Workshop. This historical workshop replicates the method used by early physicians to create medical herbaria. It is a wonderful example of a workshop that can also be applied to fabric decoration.
- Ecoprint Workshop – This workshop uses plant juices to print on paper. This simple and versatile workshop can be used at home to decorate laurels and decorative papers. While creating our own colored paper, we will learn how to create our own inks using plant juices, gum arabic, and plant decoctions suitable for creating water-based colored paints.
- The cyanotype workshop draws on the experience of those who created the first photographic prints. The patterns created on paper will be blue. This phenomenal technique develops the imagination and tells the story of civilization’s development. What would we do without photography…
- Colored papers can also be created by hand-blowing paper from various colored pulps on a hand-blown screen. During this workshop, we will use molds and stops. The resulting papers will resemble colorful fabrics. It will be great fun.
- Linocut workshop. We will show you how to print a pattern engraved on linoleum on handmade paper using a small printing press. We’ll offer a variety of ready-made designs that you can print on colored cardstock by covering the linocut stamp with colored paint.
The workshops take place at:
